What is God up to?

What is God up to? What is God doing? What is God calling us/me to do? What is God evoking within me/us? Question like these were implanted in me by a colleague over a decade ago. They continue to meddle with my teaching. I used to say after portions of a lecture, "How could this be applied?" Now I ponder what is God doing with what I said. Or, did I say anything which I am invested in with a depth that would warranted the word "theology." I pause to ask what was theological about what I said. The whole discourse becomes more present tense. It is open to the movement of the Spirit; it expects the Spirit to be present and active. The classroom discourse is not just about what we might use someday in some way. It is about now. Do we believe what we have been saying? Are we staking our futures on it? Do we trust the one about whom we are speaking? The conversation is less about information (that's always part of it) and more about confession.

Pausing to muse/write/reflect/question/confess/assert ... theologically is the goal of this blog. At times it may formally be about other topics such as grandchildren. But they are part of the world in which the Risen Christ lives; hence, even writing about them is to speak of God.
